Opened in late 2008, the Autodromo International do Algarve (AIA), commonly referred to as the Portimao Circuit, is part of a group of motorsport facilities which include the race track, go-kart track, off-road park, hotel and apartment complex.
The circuit is both an FIA and FIM homologated track and has been used as an F1 test track, hosted rounds of the European Le Mans Series, FIA GT1 championship, World Touring Car Championship and currently hosts the Portuguese round of the Superbike World Championship.
A challenging circuit with many blind corners, crests and dips including an unbelievable entry onto the start/finish straight downhill on a left hand corner, with a dip then rise onto the start/finish straight where you can pick up big speeds, this track will leave you sweating and wanting to come back for more
If you’re thinking of going to the Algarve on holiday make sure you plan a drive at this circuit whilst you are there - after all, there’s only so much sunbathing or golf you can do! Definitely worth a visit during winter as its climate allows the track to be open when most other European circuits are closed.
